The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, unlocking opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation. This is an on-site role based in Long Beach, California. As a Senior Flight Software Engineer on the Vehicle Software team, you will be a technical leader responsible for core flight software that directly impacts Terran R’s performance and flight success. You will architect and deliver safety-critical software for a distributed real-time control system, focusing on latency, jitter, and control frequency, while setting standards and mentoring junior engineers. You will work with GNC engineers to integrate complex ascent and re-entry algorithms, and with Embedded Software Engineers and Avionics to ingest sensor data (GPS, IMU, Radar) and to control vehicle equipment such as valves, thrust vector controls, and landing grid fins. You will develop telemetry systems that prioritize, filter, store, and forward data to RF formats and ground/data centers. You will help develop testing infrastructure including HITL and HOOTL and support physics and fluid simulations. You will maximize the team’s velocity by defining processes, adopting modern tools, and refining best practices.
