Thales is seeking a Machine Learning Apprentice to join the Specialist Underwater Systems Engineering team in Templecombe, United Kingdom. The role supports rapid delivery of innovative solutions for Royal Navy and export customers, developing skills to become a capable engineer through a Level 6 AI Engineer Apprenticeship with QA (23 months). The apprenticeship combines instructor-led workshops, interactive labs and self-paced learning, covering AI System Development and Automation, AI Solution Design and Testing, Deep Learning and Transformers, and related topics, with additional focus on business process optimization, security, ethics and explainable AI. Responsibilities include collaborating with underwater systems specialists and software developers to create novel solutions, working with partners across the multinational Thales organisation, academia and industry, participating in testing and validation activities, assisting with engineering investigations and problem solving, and visiting customer sites to support surveys, trials and deployment. On completion, you may achieve the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102) in addition to the IfATE Level 6 AI Engineer qualification. Entry requirements include A Levels (Math with Grade B or above, plus Physics/CS/Software/ICT) or Level 4/5 apprenticeship; GCSEs with English and Maths at grades 9-4.
