About the role
TOPdesk is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead one or two teams with a defined technical mission—front-end, middleware, back-end, data, or platform. You will provide both people leadership and hands-on technical direction, own team delivery and operational outcomes, and drive our AI-native software development lifecycle. You will work within an engineering organization of about 170 people across Delft, Budapest, and Kaiserslautern.
Responsibilities
Technical environment:
- Set technical direction and standards for your domain; make key architectural decisions in collaboration with Enterprise Architects; uphold quality, security, and operational stability.
- Coach and develop engineers, including growing engineers into senior and staff roles; hire with clarity.
- Own the delivery and the bar: own roadmaps, delivery commitments, cycle time, quality, and operational stability; maintain sustainable code review in an agentic SDLC.
- Build and reuse subagents and patterns; contribute back to shared libraries.
- Stay technically hands-on through design, reviews, incident response, problem framing, and agent workflows.
- Legacy: Java, MS SQL; Modern: Python, TypeScript, Vue, Postgres, Azure, Kubernetes; cloud-native / service-oriented architecture; Terraform-managed infrastructure.
- Claude Code is our current AI agent environment; engineers lead problem framing, architecture, acceptance criteria, security, verification, and production outcomes, with agent-generated work supported by automated tests and risk-based human approvals.
