Focus is a digital services firm delivering impactful civic technology projects for state and federal agencies, including the Department of State, IRS, and Department of Education. We are a fully remote company based in the continental United States, with occasional travel of roughly 1–2 times per year. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will work across the entire technology stack, building Playwright automated UI test suites, developing Python scripts for dynamic test data setup, designing self-service front ends in React, and constructing automated CI/CD pipelines in AWS. You will operate in a complex, multi-vendor government ecosystem, serving as a technical guide and gatekeeper to help third-party teams identify bugs, improve release velocity, and migrate to modern CI/CD practices. Responsibilities include: Architect, build, and maintain scalable end-to-end automated UI and API test suites using Playwright and TypeScript across multiple product verticals. Design and build automated data generation tools and synthetic applicant profile generators using Python and REST APIs to replace manual data setup.
