Identify emerging AI research and set the technical roadmap for Fivetran AI; prototype ideas and ship production features
Define technical direction across Fivetran AI and collaborating departments, resolving architectural tradeoffs
Build and maintain backend and frontend systems for the AI product, including Agents Schema pipelines and the Context Catalog UI
Own production reliability: on-call rotation, incident response, and SRE practices to keep the system scalable
Mentor senior engineers, participate in hiring, and represent the department's technical perspective in cross-team planning

Bonus:

10+ years of programming experience in Python and/or Java; comfortable moving between backend and frontend
Ability to define direction, work independently, and influence across departments
Experience with SQL and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar)
Able to read AI/ML research and turn insights into prototypes and production systems
Experience mentoring engineers and thriving in a startup-like environment
Willingness to work across full stack (research, backend, frontend, SRE, QA)
Experience with LLM-powered apps, RAG pipelines, or MCP ecosystem
Familiarity with semantic layers and data integration

$232,338—$290,422 USD (Oakland Pay Range)
