Del Rey Books, a premier publisher of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, is seeking an Editor to join our team. The Editor will acquire 10–12 titles per year with a focus on commercial genre fiction with a speculative edge. The Editor will articulate and execute a handcrafted vision for each title, from acquisition and creative development to close collaboration with design, art, production, and promotional teams during publication. The Editor will serve as the authors’ primary point of contact and as the in-house project manager and advocate. The role requires an imaginative and expansive sense of the aesthetic possibilities and potential audience for genre fiction, and a commitment to acquiring titles representing the diversity of the speculative fiction community. Key responsibilities include actively soliciting and evaluating acquisitions with a clear publication vision and target audiences, cultivating relationships with literary agents and authors, working with authors and agents on manuscript development from concept to developmental and line edits, collaborating with the editorial team to evaluate submissions and align with the imprint’s strategy, shepherding each book through publication (including writing copy, sales materials, and loglines, soliciting blurbs, identifying the target audience and messaging), and serving as the book’s chief project manager and advocate both in-house and externally.
