About the role

GRID is hiring a Backend Engineer (m/f/x). This role offers Remote OK with offices in Berlin, Germany and Wrocław, Poland. You will build greenfield, mission-critical services and expand the reliability of existing systems. You will shape GRID's technology landscape together with experienced colleagues, participate in architectural discussions, and communicate progress and considerations to product stakeholders.

Requirements

minimum of 3 years of commercial experience; deep knowledge of a strongly typed language (preferably Kotlin or Go); explicit (nullable) types; strong, minimal contracts; useful abstractions and class hierarchies; ambition to build robust, high-quality mission-critical systems with automated testing, automated monitoring and alerting, and CI/CD infrastructure. Knowledge of good API design (REST/GraphQL) with attention to documentation, self-documenting naming, and minimal, extendable contracts. Experience with GraphQL/REST APIs, microservice architecture, and container/orchestration systems (Docker/Kubernetes). Familiarity with JIRA, Agile and Scrum. Good communication skills, especially when working with remote teams. Ability to work in CET time zone. Nice to have: production experience designing GraphQL APIs; knowledge of eSports and gaming; the ability to thrive in a fast-paced software startup; a passion for software engineering with clean, well-tested code; enthusiasm for Lean, fully Agile environments; comfort with AI tooling (e.g., Copilot, Claude code) and modern AI workflows.
