Responsibilities - Lead and mentor a team of systems engineers and systems administrators across Linux and related disciplines - Lead hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and professional development - Translate direction into team execution; plan, prioritize, and deliver projects with balanced timelines and risk - Collaborate with peer engineering managers to align infrastructure and cross-functional priorities - Foster operational rigor, documentation, and continuous improvement - Manage on-call rotations and incident response; act as player/coach in architecture decisions and tooling - Ensure reliability, availability, security, and performance of production systems - Oversee fleet lifecycle management (OS upgrades, patching, hardware refresh) and configuration management (Ansible) - Drive capacity planning and resource allocation across bare-metal, Proxmox, and VMware environments - Maintain monitoring/observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana) - Provide technical oversight for services including mail, DNS, billing/provisioning, and internal APIs - Define security standards and incident response capabilities; support audits and compliance needs - Manage vendor relationships and third-party integrations; communicate status to technical and non-technical audiences
