Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Search) to help build Affirm's advertising platform and evolve the Marketplace into a best-in-class shopping destination. This team will own routing and discovery, and will explore opportunities to improve customer experience, monetization, and merchant value. You will set the technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon and collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, understand risks, and manage trade-offs. You will act as a force multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes. You will own your team's operations and availability by ensuring monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting to support keep the lights on and on-call efforts. You will foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks. What We Look For: 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
