Civica is seeking an experienced SRE Engineering Manager to lead reliability, performance, and security across our Engineering and LiveOps teams as we move to a cloud-native, SaaS operating model for education, health and care, and local government customers. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with people leadership, mentoring engineers, and embedding SRE practices across the organisation.

Key responsibilities: - Deliver reliability improvements in collaboration with the Principal SRE engineer and LiveOps teams; implement and iterate on SRE practices to improve availability, performance, and incident response. - Partner with Platform and LiveOps to build scalable, secure solutions. - Instrument services with observability stacks (metrics, tracing, logging); create shared visibility across teams. - Support on-call readiness; run blameless post-mortems; feed lessons into engineering and product planning. - Build automation and standardisation: drive IaC and CI/CD (Terraform, GitHub Actions, Ansible, Packer, Kubernetes). - Establish and evolve core SRE practices (SLOs, on-call structures, toil reduction, production readiness); tailor to organisational needs. - Hands-on technical leadership: review architectures, prototype reliability solutions, debug production issues, and make architecture trade-offs. - Manage technical debt and prioritisation; address systemic reliability risks. - People leadership: mentor engineers, foster psychological safety and accountability. - Security and Governance: collaborate with Security & Compliance to embed resilience
