nilo is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to own and improve the AWS-based platform infrastructure and reliability. This hands-on role combines 70% infrastructure and reliability work with 30% backend development across serverless and containerized services, with production systems built on Terraform and AWS (Lambda, ECS Fargate, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, SES, Cognito, DynamoDB, RDS Postgres, and DMS). You will manage everything as code, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with safe rollouts and rollbacks, design resilient event-driven services, and own observability and security tooling (Datadog and Sentry, SLOs, dashboards, alerting). You will lead incident response and blameless postmortems, harden security posture (IAM, secrets, network isolation, Cognito), ensure GDPR/compliance readiness, and optimize AWS spend without compromising reliability. You will contribute to backend development (APIs, data pipelines, and database performance) and participate in architectural discussions, mentoring engineers on operational excellence. The role is based in Berlin, Germany, with a hybrid working model (2 days per week in the office, 3 days from home).
