Rivian is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to bridge early-stage hardware innovation and mass production by bringing new custom electronic boards to life, writing the low-level firmware, and developing the Device Under Test (DUT) software used for factory testing and calibration. You will architect, implement, and optimize low-level peripheral drivers (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN-FD, PCIe, Ethernet) for next-generation controllers, lead the initial software bring-up of first-article prototype boards, and design software that maximizes test coverage while minimizing cycle time on the production line. You will collaborate closely with Electrical Engineering, Production Software, Controls Software, Systems Engineering, UX, Manufacturing Test, and Reliability teams to define hardware–software interfaces and testing strategies, diagnose complex hardware/software interactions, and drive technical decisions. Qualifications include BS with 5 years or MS with 3 years in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; proven firmware development in C/C++ and RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, QNX, or similar); ability to read schematics and datasheets; hands-on experience with ARM Cortex-M/A, RISC-V, and embedded protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet); experience with Python scripts for testing; prior experience deploying embedded code in high-volume manufacturing; and familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines for embedded systems, and agile development. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and attention to detail are essential.
