Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Video Performance, to own the end-to-end video creation performance across web, iOS and Android. Based in San Francisco with a hybrid work arrangement, you will define performance metrics and SLAs, build telemetry, tracing, dashboards and alerting, and create profiling and benchmarking tooling so any engineer in Video can diagnose slow paths without waiting for you. You will ship measurable improvements to latency, frame stability, memory and battery life, working with the Native Video Engine, on-device ML and Editing teams to optimize hot paths for better parallelism, caching, hardware acceleration and asynchronous processing. You should be proficient in C++ (or Rust) and familiar with graphics APIs (OpenGL, Metal, Vulkan, WebGPU). You have built performance tooling and can read telemetry at scale, spot regressions and prove optimizations. Nice-to-haves include on-device iOS/Android system-level performance, knowledge of video pipelines, on-device ML (CoreML, TFLite, TensorRT), WebAssembly tuning, and contributions to open-source multimedia projects like FFmpeg or Chromium. The Video Group is a global team across Sydney, San Francisco and Beijing.
