GRAM is seeking a Senior Software Controls Engineer, Locomotion, with 5-7+ years of experience to own the locomotion stack for a first-of-its-kind hexapod robot designed to climb and traverse complex steel infrastructure. The successful candidate will join a small founding team to deploy hardware, develop learning-based locomotion, and implement perception-conditioned foothold selection and vision-informed path planning for a six-legged robot that climbs steel lattice structures. You will own the locomotion stack, enabling reliable walking, integrating magnetic adhesion for vertical or near-vertical traversal, and rebuilding existing control software with solid software engineering practices. Responsibilities include building perception-conditioned path planning and foothold selection across dozens of lattice geometries, ensuring robust control of a multi-legged platform, and achieving gravity-agnostic stability across vertical, lateral, and inverted orientations. You will review and rebuild existing control software, discard approaches that don’t work, and establish solid foundations for ongoing development. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; demonstrated ownership of architecture and technical direction for a deployed manipulation system spanning planning, sensing, control, monitoring, and recovery; strong C++ and Python skills with experience in ROS 2, Drake, MoveIt, Pinocchio, or an equivalent internal stack; proven abili
