The Nuclear Company is hiring a Backend Engineer to build the server-side systems behind NOS modules and applications. You will report to the Director of Product Engineering and work in the Product Engineering squad. NOS is the software platform powering one of the largest nuclear buildouts in the United States, and this role builds the APIs, services, and data access the products run on. This is a hands-on engineering position focused on designing and building backend services and APIs for NOS applications, modeling and accessing data, and ensuring the server side is reliable, secure, and fast. You will work with the Staff Software Engineer and product engineers on applications and with the platform squad on shared services. Responsibilities include: building backend services and APIs, designing schemas, queries, and data access patterns, ensuring uptime and security, integrating with the platform, supporting CI/CD, and maintaining production systems. Required experience includes 5+ years building production backend systems and APIs; a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent production experience); strong skills in Python, Go, Java, TypeScript, or similar; experience designing APIs and working with relational and/or non-relational databases; experience with at least one major cloud (AWS preferred) and modern CI/CD; solid grounding in testing, security, and reliability practices; and good written and verbal communication.
