Apple is seeking a Software Engineer for the Darwin Server team within Core OS to develop system software for Apple’s operating systems. The Darwin Server team maintains the UNIX-like foundation from kernel to low-level user components and focuses on adapting it for server environments, including Private Cloud Compute powering Apple Intelligence. The engineer will work on technologies that underpin Apple’s operating systems in server and cloud contexts, including building technologies for server application packaging and distribution (such as OCI images and containers), enabling Darwin to integrate with cloud management and orchestration technologies (similar to cloud-init and Kubernetes), improving Darwin’s observability at scale (OpenTelemetry), and developing new security or privacy features for Private Cloud Compute. Responsibilities include participating in all phases of the software development lifecycle, collaborating with client teams to meet development and product requirements, partnering with technology owners across Apple to enable their technologies for use in server environments, and engaging cross-functionally to drive technical change.
