The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Heluna Health seek a Senior Planning and Preparedness Technical Writer to join their team in Sacramento, California. This hybrid role involves developing and maintaining emergency and continuity plans, response procedures, guidance documents, training materials, policies, reports, action plans, manuals, and supporting materials on complex public health topics. The writer will produce high-quality content for diverse audiences, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, and the general public, working independently and as part of a cross-functional team. Salary is $145,000 - $165,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications. May be required to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Must submit a resume with the application. Essential functions include literature reviews, synthesizing research, creating briefings and slide decks, collaborating with subject matter experts, tailoring messages for stakeholders, copyediting, and delivering trainings while mentoring other team members. Qualifications include a Master’s degree or higher in public health or public policy and/or equivalent experience, experience translating complex language for diverse audiences, and strong written/verbal communication skills. Preferred: deep understanding of public health principles, emergency management, and related policies. The position is hybrid and must be available during normal Pacific Standard Time working hours, with remote work possible as needed.
