Spate is seeking a Backend Engineer with a data focus to design and implement the next iteration of our data pipeline, storage, and API powering our SaaS platform. This is a remote, full-time contractor role in Eastern Europe. Responsibilities include supporting customers and staff in understanding and using the platform, ensuring the availability of the platform and data, and implementing improvements for security, quality, testing, automation, documentation and new features. You will contribute to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and task prioritization, estimate effort for development tasks, help create project timelines, and track progress to proactively address delays. Minimum qualifications include 3 years of experience as a software engineer focusing on backend and ETL for web applications, experience collecting, cleaning, and analyzing large data sets, proficiency in Python and SQL, strong communication and project-management skills, ability to work independently, and located in Eastern Europe. Preferred qualifications include proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or Google Data Studio; strong analytical and customer-facing skills; and experience with AWS, GCP or Azure.
