About the role
Backbase is seeking a Senior AI Applied Software Engineer to join our R&D team in Krakow. You will be at the core of the Backbase platform, focusing on Entitlements and solving complex problems related to Access Control, Approvals and Limits. You will design systems that influence millions of users across more than 100 financial institutions worldwide, and you will work on both backend and frontend to ensure performance, security, and scalability.
Responsibilities
Who You Are
- Full SDLC ownership: lead the lifecycle of digital banking products from idea and architectural design to release and maintenance.
- Architectural Excellence: improve system architecture and design components that integrate across APIs and microservices.
- Technical Leadership: mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and raise engineering standards.
- AI & Innovation: contribute to LLM-based voice assistants and real-time personalization engines using OpenAI and ML models.
- Security-First Mindset: implement Entitlements and fraud prevention services with focus on security, scalability, resilience.
- Collaborative Culture: work in a pod-based model with Architects, Product Owners, and UX Designers to align technical solutions with business needs.
- Location: Kraków, Poland, or nearby; hybrid mode - in-office twice per week.
- Experience: 5–7+ years building complex, high-traffic products.
- Backend Mastery: Java, Spring JPA/Hibernate, Maven; experience with Microservices (Netflix OSS is a plus) and cloud technologies.
- Frontend Expertise: Angular and TypeScript; RxJS; modern build systems;
