Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking an experienced Cryptography Security Engineer SME to join our Space Systems Command program in El Segundo, California. This on-site position supports the U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command by delivering space and ground cryptographic units for secure, survivable communications. Responsibilities include leading spacecraft cryptographic unit trade studies, evaluating solutions against requirements, interfaces, environmental considerations, performance criteria, and testability, and delivering data-driven recommendations to program leadership. You will oversee the design, interface definition, development, and delivery of encryption units (hardware and firmware), ensuring compatibility with subsystems and compliance with mission, cybersecurity, and interface standards. Additional duties include managing crypto lifecycle tasks, supporting Protected Key Management Architecture (PKMA) and secure key management processes, and maintaining full requirement traceability through verification, validation, TRRs, dry runs, SVTs, CDRL reviews, and anomaly resolution. Build and maintain strong relationships with government customers, contractors, subcontractors, and FFRDC partners, and represent the crypto engineering function in design reviews and program-level forums. You will mentor junior to mid-level engineers, lead technical reviews, and enforce cryptographic standards across programs. Travel is about once monthly; working hours are standard.
