Legal & General (L&G) is seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to join the Retail DataOps team in Cardiff, United Kingdom. This hands-on technical leadership role is focused on designing, building and improving modern data solutions across the Retail Analytics Data Hub. You will work with Snowflake, Azure Data Factory (ADF) and dbt Cloud, while also mentoring engineers, engaging with business stakeholders and maturing how data pipelines are delivered. You’ll operate across Retail data domains including protection, retirement, annuities and pensions, with a mix of BAU and project work. Responsibilities include designing and building data solutions, developing scalable ELT pipelines, translating business requirements into technical delivery plans, leading data modelling activities (Kimball-style fact and dimension design), and supporting migration from legacy tooling to Snowflake-centered solutions. You will work within Scrum teams to plan and deliver data engineering work and contribute to standards, documentation, quality, governance and release processes. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in building and operating data pipelines, solid data modelling skills, familiarity with Snowflake, ADF, dbt Cloud or equivalent technologies, and excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience mentoring or coaching other engineers is a plus.
