Firestorm is seeking a Software QA Engineer to join the Embedded Linux team as the first deep-testing line for the software stack. This onsite role based at our San Diego headquarters will validate embedded firmware, board support packages, drivers, and safety-critical data paths long before Flight Test. You’ll blend exploratory testing with targeted automation across HIL/SIL rigs, exercising buses such as CAN/CAN-FD, UART, SPI, I²C, and Ethernet, and stress links like MAVLink and Tactical Data Links under real-world fault conditions. You’ll partner with avionics, autonomy, radio, and payload engineers to harden reliability where it matters most: on the aircraft. Responsibilities include owning system tests for embedded Linux, planning risk-based test strategies, building automated tests for HIL/SIL, standing up reproducible rigs, instrumenting tests, and contributing to safety, security, and reliability hardening per MIL-STD/DO guidance. Qualifications include a 5+ year track record in QA/SDET for embedded/real-time or safety-critical systems, hands-on testing for embedded Linux and drivers/HAL, Python-based automation, C/C++ work, CI/CD experience, and U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance. Preferred qualifications include HIL/SIL design experience, MAVLink/DDS familiarity, and lab bring-up skills. The role is onsite in San Diego with some travel and offers a US salary range of $100,000 - $130,000 plus benefits.
