About the role
Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized Test Engineer to join the Energy Storage and Distribution Systems (ESDS) team in San Carlos, California. You will contribute to the development of flight-critical ESDS components and subsystems for VTOL electric aircraft, collaborating with the battery design engineering team and other test engineers to perform performance, reliability, and environmental testing, including power/thermal and humidity cycling, vibration and shock, and accelerated life testing.
Responsibilities
Qualifications:
- Develop new testing capabilities for FAA qualification testing of ESDS components such as battery modules, power distribution modules, fuses, and the thermal management system; extend these capabilities for future durability and reliability testing.
- Aid in the integration and maintenance of ESDS labs, including a complete aircraft-representative battery lab and related labs for power distribution, power conversion, and battery thermal management.
- Develop formal FAA certification test plans and procedures with appropriate instrumentation and data collection to ensure repeatability.
- Analyze data to generate reports for FAA review and to provide feedback to the battery design team.
- Coordinate and lead test kickoff, preparation, reviews, and data sessions; organize and maintain the battery test area and equipment with strict documentation and safety practices.
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline with 5+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years.
