Xometry is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership across multiple engineering teams and help shape the AI-enabled infrastructure that underpins the Thomas platform, a division of Xometry. Thomasnet, also part of Xometry, is evolving from a traditional supplier directory to AI-assisted sourcing, and this role will set technical direction for shared systems while staying hands-on in code. What you'll do: lead architectural discussions and participate in implementation; drive innovation by balancing proven technologies with cutting-edge approaches, including AI across the platform; mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote operational excellence; collaborate with product managers, designers, and leadership to maintain high standards. What you'll bring: 7+ years of professional software development experience with a track record of owning outcomes and mentoring engineers; strong full-stack skills (backend in TypeScript/Node.js with GraphQL, a React/Next.js frontend, PostgreSQL and analytical data stores, and OpenSearch at production scale); experience with AI product engineering (LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, embeddings) and knowledge of evolving frameworks; familiarity with multimodal embeddings and search, agent orchestration frameworks, and model fine-tuning with PyTorch or TensorFlow; excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
