About the role

National Highways is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join the Integration & Enablement (I&E) team within Major Projects on the A66 programme. The role supports Project Managers and workstream leads by turning agreed strategies and priorities into practical delivery plans, coordinating inputs from work package teams and specialist functions, and maintaining visibility of milestones, dependencies, risks and decisions. You will support governance, performance reporting, handover, and continuous improvement, with travel to the A66 as required. The position can be based in Manchester or Leeds, and the organisation endorses hybrid working.

You will support governance, performance reporting, handover, and continuous improvement, with travel to the A66 as required. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining integrated plans, milestone and look-ahead schedules, action trackers, risk and issue registers, decision logs and governance products; coordinating inputs from delivery partners and the supply chain; and preparing reports and briefing information while tracking readiness and progress and escalating where necessary. You will assist the Project Manager with day-to-day activities including commercial and contract administration, health and safety, risk, quality and assurance.

About you: - Suitable project management qualification or equivalent relevant experience, ideally with membership of, or commitment to work towards membership of, an appropriate professional body (i.e. APM). - Experience of supporting project or programme delivery in a complex, multi-disciplinary or matrix environment. - Good understanding of health and safety, quality and governance requirements within project
