Apple is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to build evaluation tooling for multilingual AI that works across languages and cultures. In this role you will help ensure Apple's AI features perform well across languages and cultures, with the goal of making evaluation tooling multilingual from day one. You’ll shape how Apple evaluates AI wherever the hardest questions are, and you’ll have the opportunity to publish novel work. The scientific challenge is to evaluate AI features consistently across grammar, scripts, and cultural norms at scale. You’ll bring linguistic judgment to these questions and, working with measurement scientists and ML researchers, translate them into validated methodologies that hold across dozens of languages. This is a hands-on role. You’ll design and implement your own methods in Python, collaborating with research and engineering partners while staying focused on the science of getting evaluation right. Minimum qualifications include a MS in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, NLP, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent research/work experience; deep linguistics expertise with fluency in more languages beyond English; strong Python; solid understanding of LLMs and AI evaluation; experience shipping or evaluating features across multiple languages; ability to design benchmarks, datasets, or human evaluation protocols with rigor and reproducibility; ability to drive initiatives independently; strong written and verbal communication.
