Software Engineer with power systems experience is sought to join Squid in London as one of the first engineers. This role involves building production software for grid operators and collaborating with the founders and early engineering team to shape product architecture and engineering culture. You will work across the stack to deliver backend services, data pipelines, frontend interfaces, cloud infrastructure and AI evaluation systems, while translating real grid workflows into reliable software. The position is based in our central London office and offers high ownership of the product and technical direction. Responsibilities include building and shipping production software across backend, frontend, data and cloud infrastructure; developing tools to load, validate, compare, visualize and explain power system models and datasets; establishing Squid’s technical approach to power system modelling, validation, benchmarking and engineering assurance; building workflows for grid planning, connections, scenario analysis, data quality and model governance; designing APIs, data pipelines and product interfaces for complex engineering workflows; creating benchmarks and evaluation tools for testing AI models and agents on real power systems tasks; building human-in-the-loop systems that allow AI to assist engineers while keeping people in control; working directly with customers to understand problems, test solutions and improve the product; using modern AI development tools to prototype, test and ship software quickly.
