About the role

BigBear.ai is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to design, implement, and operate scalable AI infrastructure and inference services that power AI-enabled applications. This on-site role in Columbia, Maryland focuses on building production-grade systems for model inference at scale, supporting technologies such as retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and autonomous agents. You will drive infrastructure design, develop and maintain production AI services, implement monitoring and observability, automate provisioning using Infrastructure as Code, and ensure reliability, performance, and security. Mentorship to junior engineers and collaboration across teams are also expected.

BigBear.ai is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to design, implement, and operate scalable AI infrastructure and inference services that power AI-enabled applications. This on-site role in Columbia, Maryland focuses on building production-grade systems for model inference at scale, supporting technologies such as retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and autonomous agents. You will drive infrastructure design, develop and maintain production AI services, implement monitoring and observability, automate provisioning using Infrastructure as Code, and ensure reliability, performance, and security. Qualifications include an active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance; 8 years of experience with a B.S. in a technical discipline or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree; proficiency in Java and Python; experience building production systems at scale; high-volume web application architecture; cloud engineering in AWS; Kubernetes administration; strong Python skills; observability tools (APM, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus); CI/CD and DevOps practices; excellent communication and collaboration skills. Desired experience includes AI inference serving technologies (e.g., vLLM, LiteLLM), agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain), vector databases, and distributed systems.
