Overview Join the Internal Tooling team at Cambridge Aerospace to develop software that runs on our physical devices, including test stations, manufacturing rigs, lab equipment, and their controlling computers. Your applications will interface with custom hardware and instruments and reliably transmit data to backend services used across the company. You will work with colleagues from engineering, manufacturing, and other departments, benefiting from fast feedback loops to improve resilience and velocity.

Responsibilities - Lead design of applications and services that run on physical devices and communicate with hardware and lab instruments - Build reliable data pipelines from devices to backend APIs, handling outages, hardware faults, and restarts without data loss - Design device software for easy deployment, configuration, updates, and remote diagnosis - Collaborate with hardware, test, and manufacturing engineers to translate physical processes into dependable software - Define APIs and data contracts between devices and services with backend and platform teams - Mentor teammates and share hardware-integration best practices - Seek opportunities to automate and instrument physical processes

Requirements - Proficiency in Python, C++, or similar (e.g., Rust, Go, C#) - Experience talking to hardware via interfaces such as serial, USB, CAN, and Ethernet/TCP - Experience building clients that send data to backend APIs (REST), including retries, buffering, and offline operation - Strong
