Front-End GIS Developer (React, Map Services, Spatial ETL) – NATO
Overview Decisions get made over maps. You will ensure maps are fast, accurate, and delivered on time. Join the geospatial team of an international defence organization in Brussels to build and extend web mapping applications and the services behind them.
What you would do - Develop and configure web GIS applications with ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript and other modern frameworks (React, Vue.js, or Angular) - Ingest spatial data from classified and unclassified sources into those applications - Convert and prepare data with Python and spatial ETL tools - Configure map services, feature layers, and tiled data so they load quickly on the web - Tune backend queries and map rendering for performance - Document code, service endpoints, and architecture; transfer knowledge to staff
What you would bring - At least 5 years of web development with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue.js, or Angular) - Hands-on experience with a major web mapping SDK – layers, popups, custom widgets, and client-side spatial operations - Python for geoprocessing and automation (ArcPy, GeoPandas, Shapely, Rasterio, GDAL/OGR) - Backend services or pipelines that expose geospatial functionality - Git, Agile, and a bachelor’s degree in computer science, geography, IT or related field - Advanced English; some basic French is helpful
