Verkada is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to own the double-entry accounting ledger that converts licenses into daily revenue recognition. On the Core Licensing & Devices team, you will ensure correctness under concurrency and failures as Verkada scales to millions of devices and tighter audit requirements. You will design and lead the systems behind upmarket licensing, including pay-as-you-go metering, fixed-term commitments, and enterprise packaging. You will build reconciliation and controls that let Finance close the books daily with traceability and the lineage auditors require. You will partner with Finance, Accounting, Revenue, and Product to translate revenue-recognition policy (ASC 606, deferred revenue, contract modifications, true-ups) into precise, testable system behavior. You will lead major features end-to-end, participate in design and code reviews, create crisp documentation, and mentor others. You will drive operational rigor with strong observability, clear SLOs, low pager noise, and a blameless learning culture when incidents occur. You will help shape the platform roadmap as Verkada scales and matures. Requirements: 8+ years building backend services with strong correctness and durability at scale; deep experience with financial or transactional systems (ledgers, double-entry, billing, payments, or revenue recognition); comfort working with Finance and Accounting; fluency in Python or Go; ability to partner with non-engineering stakeholders; for Staff level, ability to set technical direction across teams; bonus: experience preparing financial systems
