Verkada is transforming security with a privacy-sensitive AI-powered platform that includes video security, access control, sensors, alarms, and more. Atlas is the founding engineering team responsible for the Maps mandate, building the Spatial Systems, the core rendering engine, tiling infrastructure, and collaborative APIs that power the maps experience across Verkada’s product ecosystem. As Engineering Manager, you will act as a player-coach to deliver the V1 of our Spatial System from the ground up, own the initial image pipeline, and set the technical standards for collaborative editing protocols. You will lead the design of a modular, plugin-based architecture and define SDKs and APIs that enable 8+ product teams to overlay their data on maps seamlessly. You will oversee data ingestion of unstructured sources blueprints, CAD files, and high-resolution imagery into clean, topologically sound vector data using ML and automated processing. Hire and mentor the founding Atlas team (4-6 engineers), establishing engineering culture, code review standards, and architectural RFC processes. You will be the primary technical diplomat for the Maps mandate, negotiating with other Product EMs to ensure a unified Maps experience across the Verkada suite. This is an on-site role based in San Mateo, California. We sponsor visas for this role, and the annual pay range is $220,000-$315,000 USD.
