General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking a Material Controller for the Plate Yard at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. The Material Controller will receive, identify, locate, retrieve, and sort materials, tally types and quantities against receiving reports, material move tags, packing slips, and shipping documents, and locate materials by size, shape, weight, or stock number, palletizing them securely. The role requires operating a rotary (15k) lift and safely burning shapes with an oxy torch. The position involves outdoor work in all weather conditions. This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI. Qualifications: Required: High school diploma or equivalent or 2+ years of related technical experience; 1+ years of Material Control experience; previous forklift experience; must have a valid driver’s license and be able to timely obtain a license for electric, propane or diesel forklifts with a capacity up to 30 tons; must be available to work all shifts and in extreme temperature & weather conditions as required; ability to interpret shipyard procedures, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams; must be able to handle/lift heavy items within the safety guidelines. Preferred: Knowledge of metal types; basic knowledge of MRP/material tracking system; ability to operate various burning equipment; Military/Navy experience; Shipyard experience; Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs.
