About the role

Tenstorrent is a leader in AI hardware and software, pushing performance, usability, and cost efficiency. We have developed a high-performance RISC-V CPU and are expanding our Metal Runtime team. As a Software Engineer on the Metal Runtime team, you will work on low-level software that powers our AI accelerators, designing fast, efficient runtime systems close to the hardware and defining host and device APIs that expose capabilities to the software stack. APIs are a core part of systems design, encoding hardware semantics, performance tradeoffs, and concurrency models, and they outlive any single implementation. If you enjoy pushing performance, working close to the metal, and building abstractions that make complex systems usable without sacrificing control, this is the role for you.

What You Will Do: - Design and evolve high-performance host and device APIs for Tenstorrent's Metal Runtime. - Develop intuitive abstractions that expose low-level hardware features while maintaining performance and control. - Collaborate with runtime, kernel, compiler, and software teams to build scalable, production-ready interfaces. - Contribute to runtime implementation, debugging, performance optimization, and API integration across the software stack. - Improve API quality through thoughtful design and usability enhancements.
