Our Payments team focuses on processing payments for restaurants, ensuring timely payments and supporting a configurable enterprise approach. We are seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Payments team in Boston, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a unified payment processing solution: a single, integrated service for payment acceptance across channels that scales with our customers' needs.

A day in the life - Design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable microservices in collaboration with Product Managers and engineers. - Optimize performance and usability to improve the restaurant management experience. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Toast. - Promote best coding practices and contribute to a culture of innovation. - Leverage AI tools to enhance development workflow and velocity.

What you'll need - 2+ years of experience designing and implementing robust backend services using Kotlin and/or Java. - Experience with microservices architecture and containerization for scalability and maintainability. - Understanding of backend patterns (microservices, monolithic, event-driven). - Experience building scalable, secure, and performant backend systems. - Understanding of testing principles (unit, integration, end-to-end).

Nice to have - Experience with payment systems is a plus. - Experience with AWS DynamoDB and PostgreSQL.
